Een vijzel, een verwonderende blik en heel veel kleine dingen om te ontdekken: deze kleurrijke mural, gemaakt door Annabel Adema, heeft alles te maken met de straat waar het zich bevindt.
“In dit kunstwerk draait het om handel! Het verwijst naar de oude markt die hier plaatsvond, maar ook naar de boerenmarkt die er nu is en naar de winkels die in de Vijzelstraat zitten en hebben gezeten. Naar deze specifieke winkels zijn op de achtergrond verwijzingen te vinden. Worstjes, kleding, sigaren en een pikant speeltje…
Als mensen krioelen we door de stad om te kopen en te verkopen, maar in de Vijzelstraat zijn ook mens en natuur heel belangrijk. Vandaar de omlijsting vol planten en het kindje die tussen alle drukte verwonderd kijkt naar haar reflectie in de grote gouden vijzel. ”

“This artwork is all about trade! It refers to the old market that took place here, but also to the current farmers’ market and to the shops that are and have been in Vijzelstraat. References to these specific shops can be found in the background. Sausages, clothes, cigars, and a spicy toy…
As people, we teem through the city to buy and sell, but in Vijzelstraat, people and nature are also very important. Hence, the frame full of plants and the child who, amidst all the hustle and bustle, looks in wonder at her reflection in the large golden mortar.”
