Twee Muizen – Market stamps
Deze tweedelige mural is gemaakt door het Barcelona-based duo Twee Muizen. Je vindt het kunstwerk in de zijstraat naast Hotel Post-Plaza. Het kunstwerk bevat veel elementen die verwijzen naar de geschiedenis van het gebied.
Twee Muizen: “Ons werk bestaat uit twee muurschilderingen, een tweeluik dat de essentie van de oude Hollandse markten weergeeft met onze surrealistische signatuur en ons karakteristieke kleurenpalet. Op de eerste wand zien we het serene gezicht van een meisje, omringd door bloemen, met een bootje op haar hoofd. Het bootje symboliseert handel en commerciële activiteit, terwijl het meisje onschuld en de verbinding tussen verleden en heden vertegenwoordigt. Het werk bevat florale elementen die typisch zijn voor de 17e-eeuwse Nederlandse handel, maar dan in een eigentijdse stijl. De florale details en het heldere kleurenpalet roepen de visuele rijkdom van de markten op.
In het volgende schilderij, hoewel we ons blijven laten inspireren door het hoofdthema van de markten en hetzelfde kleurenschema hebben gebruikt als de eerste wand om twee onderling verbonden werken te creëren, hebben we de compositie op een andere manier bewerkt en de elementen met elkaar verweven, zodat het resultaat een groots visueel patroon vormt. Gestreepte marktluifels, bootzeilen, vissen, Nederlandse architectuur, bloemen, boten en traditionele scheepsbeschuit.
Beide muurschilderingen zijn omlijst alsof het twee postzegels zijn, een knipoog naar het postkantoor dat ooit in dat gebouw was gevestigd. Het werk combineert traditie en fantasie en creëert zo een visueel eerbetoon aan de commerciële en maritieme drukte van Noord-Nederland, maar dan met een eigentijdse invalshoek.”
EN: This incredible two-part mural was made by Barcelona-based artist duo Twee Muizen. You can find it on the side street next to Hotel Post-Plaza. The artwork features numerous elements that refer to the rich history of the area.
Twee Muizen: “Our work consists of two mural paintings, a diptych representation of the essence of old Dutch markets with our surrealist signature and characteristic color palette. On the first wall, we see the serene face of a girl surrounded by flowers with a boat resting on her head. The boat symbolizes trade and commercial activity, while the girl represents innocence and the connection between past and present. The work contains floral elements typical of 17th-century Dutch trade in a contemporary style. The floral details and the bright color palette evoke the visual richness of the markets.
In the following painting, although we continue to draw inspiration from the main theme of markets and have used the same color scheme as the first wall to create two interconnected works, we have worked on the composition differently, interweaving the elements so that the result serves as a grand visual pattern. Striped market awnings, boat sails, fish, Dutch architecture, flowers, boats, and traditional ship biscuits.
Both murals are framed as if they are two stamps, giving a nod to the post office that was once in that building. The work blends tradition and fantasy, creating a visual homage to the commercial and maritime bustle of the Dutch north with a contemporary approach.”
