EN: Zabou – “While The World Burns'”
This mural was created for ‘The Wall Is Yours: Graffiti & Street Art Takeover’ in the Fries Museum. This exhibition was open from April 4 to July 12, 2026. You can find more information about the takeover here.
Zabou: “I wanted to create a framed fictitious historical painting. The artwork features the portrait of a friend (his name is Cédric) holding and staring at his smartphone with a detached, uninterested expression. In the background, a village engulfed in flames can be seen, inspired by a 16th-century Dutch painting. The piece is a metaphor for the current state of the world.”

Deze mural is gemaakt voor ‘The Wall Is Yours: Graffiti & Street Art Takeover’ in het Fries Museum. Deze unieke tentoonstelling was te bezoeken van 4 april t/m 12 juli 2026. Meer informatie over de takeover vind je hier.
Zabou: “Ik wilde een ingelijst fictief historisch schilderij maken. Het kunstwerk toont het portret van een vriend (zijn naam is Cédric) die zijn smartphone vasthoudt en er met een afstandelijke, ongeïnteresseerde blik naar staart. Op de achtergrond is een dorp te zien dat in vlammen opgaat, geïnspireerd op een 16e-eeuws Nederlands schilderij. Het werk is een metafoor voor de huidige toestand van de wereld.”
