Don Slizerone – Etsje

Don Slizerone creëerde dit voetbal-geinspireerde werk op zijn containers op het Vliet. Met Cambuurstadion op steenworp (of voetbal-inworp) afstand van de containers, is het een perfecte tribute aan deze iconische omgeving.
“Het idee was eerst om het figuurtje een Friese vlag sjaaltje te geven. Echter bleek dat in Ljouwert dat met FC Heereveen in verband wordt gebracht. En dat is natuurlijk niet de bedoeling. Zeker niet als je bedenkt dat het stadion van Cambuur op een steenworp afstand ligt. Zo is het eigenlijk ook meteen het hele voetbal thema ontstaan rond de drie bakken. Wat eerst gewoon een leuk figuurtje zou worden, heeft zo een eigen leventje gekregen. Het stadion mag dan wel binnenkort weggaan, dit werk kan als leuke herinnering aan het stadion nog heel lang blijven staan. Het werk heb ik ‘Etsje’ genoemd. Ik kwam er later achter dat het clublied van Cambuur over Eelke en Etsje gaat. Het nummer gaat over de gewone man die het tegen de gevestigde orde moet afleggen. De doodgewone mensen, Jan met de pet, die niet worden gehoord door de instanties, maar desondanks zo gastvrij blijven.”

“The idea was initially to give the character a Frisian flag scarf. However, it turned out that in Leeuwarden, that is associated with SC Heerenveen. And that is certainly not the intention. Especially when you consider that the Cambuur stadium is just a stone’s throw away. So, the whole football theme around the three bins originated. What was initially just going to be a cute character, has thus acquired its own little life. While the stadium may soon be gone, this work can stand as a nice reminder of the stadium for a long time. I named the work ‘Etsje’. I later discovered that the Cambuur club song is about Eelke and Etsje. The song is about the ordinary man who has to compete against the established order. The ordinary people, the average Joes, who are not heard by the authorities, yet remain so hospitable.”
